Iceland Volcano brings chaos
All flights are grounded today, due to the ash in the clouds from this volcano.
I have friends who were turned away from Liverpool today, they were flying with Ryanair to Alicante and were told that there would be no Ryanair flights today.
Seems like the whole country is at a standstill until the ash clouds have passed.
On Holiday Watchdog it says that as it's classed as "Act of God" people will have to purchase new flights as insurers do not cover this act.

Yes, It is a shame for passengers due to fly, I also feel really sorry for those stuck at airports abroad waiting to fly home and can't help thinking with the extortinate price of food and drink at airports such as Dalaman families will probably either have a huge credit card bill or go hungry. At least it isn't the peak holiday season and there won't be so many waiting to fly home.
I always pay for flights/holidays etc with my credit card as you are covered in any eventuality.

Ha ha!!

My mate in Spain tells me that the airports are in utter chaos there too. Taxi and coaches have dropped off thousands at the airports, but of course they haven't been able to fly to the UK.
So there are thousands just stranded in the airports. It's anyones guess when they will be able to get on another flight home. Utter chaos.

Yes I heard about it on the radio today. People were moaning trying to blame the airlines but it was probably the CAA that grounded the flights. Although it is obviously frustrating for people I don't think the airlines should be blamed, and they prob know just as much as the passengers do.

I agree, Steve. I think its really unreasonable for some to blame the airlines like they are. Would the moaners rather fly even though it would be extremely unsafe? I remember watching an "aircrash investigation" on the sky channel a while back and all four engines were very erratic and kept stopping on a flight and they didn't know until later that it was due to volcanic dust from far away. They were lucky as it could have been much worse but I would rather not fly at all and miss a holiday completely than risk it. I think the CAA are right to stop all flights and it is reassuring that they do take safety issues very seriously.

Yes, of course air safety must come first.

My mate in Benidorm says that the scenes at Alicante are horrendous. People have been checking out of apartments and hotels and made it to the airport but of course no flights to the UK.
Many have slept on the pavements outside because inside is busting at the seams.
It doesn't look like there will be any flights out today either.

RE: Iceland Volcano brings chaos
I have read that the volcano which has erupted in Iceland is quite a small one and there is a much larger one there which in past history has always been set off by the smaller one and the result of this happening will be much more significant and could be even more catastrophic for the airlines and travellers and could go on for a long time.
Remember Montserrat? That went on for a long time.
I certainly hope not but I fear it may affect holidays for months.
