I like to go on a cruise in summer holidays that is why me and my husband are going on a cruise. We do not have much knowledge of cruise but we have searched a lot and have read articles and reviews. We want to know about some basic guidance and some tips to keep in mind so that we can enjoy our holidays.

Hi jen and a very warm welcome. The advice I will give to you is one that a guy will never give!.....
take some nice dresses, jewellery and shoes etc! Even if the dress code is not formal long dresses are great for a cruise.

Hello Jenny and a warm welcome to this cruise forum.

Regardless of what my dear friend Harleybabe said, I do like sparkly tops, nice dresses and dressing up, (not me the Ladies) in fact I look the bees knees in my new tuxedo.

Depending on which line you go on, the formal nights are one or two a week, three on two weeks. even on nights that are smart casual, about 25% of the ladies wear something nice.

There are some lines now that smart casual is the norm.
Things to be aware of for new comers, are tipping 6/8 Euros a day, $10.50 Caribbean, the price of on board drinks, long lines embarking, and photographs, and flight times from UK.

That said once on board all food and entertainment is included. overall it compares to shorebased 4/5* hotel holiday.

That is briefly the main points but by all means ask any question you like, only to pleased to help some one else enjoy my passion.

Off on the P & O Ventura tomorrow for a short 7 day cruise from Southampton.

Should any questions arise I will pick up from the ship and answer providing service provider is not to slow.

Hope you have a great time, am sure you will on a P&O ship. Hope you can tell us all about it on your return. At least on a cruise you dont have to worry about disruption to your flight due to the volcano.
I go to Icmeler on the 10th for 3 weeks, I think there are a few of us going on holiday soon.
