Great Yarmouth is the place to go for a fantastic, quintessentially English seaside holiday for the family. This Norfolk based resort has everything that you could want for a great week away; a Victorian pier, long stretches of sandy beaches, amusement parks and plenty of guests houses, B&Bs, campsites and and self catering options suiting all budgets.
So, what to do first. Well, its up to you of course, but if the weather is nice there is no greater place to be than one of the stunning beaches. Here you will find 15 miles of soft sand (even at high tide) with sand dunes to play in, beach huts to hire, clean water to paddle in, lots of amusements like donkey rides and bouncy castles and two piers - Britannia Pier at the north end and the Wellington pier at the south end. The Britannia Pier has a full amusement Park on board, with rides for every age; they often have great shows here too at the Theatre. You can also hop on a boat from here to take you out to Scroby Sands to do some seal spotting. Wellington Pier has a bowling alley and a great amusement arcade. Thrill seekers will also love the rides at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach; a huge funfair which has been running since 1909.
Also in town there is a Sea Life Centre, a great model village and railway and an excellent Maritime museum, not to mention a huge number of places to eat out. If you fancy a good old English breakfast, a slap-up pup lunch, an ice cream sundae or fish and chips then you will find all you could want in Great Yarmouth.
If your family fancy a day out of town, then the glorious Norfolk broads are not far and you can hire a river cruiser or a smaller sailboat and navigate down the waterways, stopping for a bite to eat at one of the pubs along the riverbanks. Or you could explore the nearby Nature Reserve of Marthan Broad, where you can hire canoes and stand up paddleboards to explore the lake here.
