# Conwy

> Conwy is a bustling market town on the north coast of Wales, sitting by the estuary of the River Conwy, just to the south of Llandudno.  The narrow streets of the town itself are still surrounded by the unbroken 1.3km ring of medieval town walls.  The impressive Conwy Castle is a World Heritage Site and sits high on a ridge overlooking both the town and an important river crossing.  You have to cross a bridge to reach it, giving an insight into what an impenetrable fortress it would have been in the 13th Century.  It is in immaculate condition and thanks to the spiral staircase in the Great Towers, you can walk the full circuit around the battlements.  Conwy Castle has the best preserved medieval royal apartments in Wales.  Aside from walking around the castle and the walls, Conwy is also home to another treasure: the Smallest House in Great Britain - Quay House - measuring just 72 inches wide by 122 inches high.  It was occupied until May 1900 (by a local fisherman standing 6 foot 3 inches high no less!) and is now a local attraction, recently refurbished and showing just how you can fit a single bed, storage, a living room and a fireplace into such a small space!  While staying in Conwy you can also visit the Bodnant Gardens, the RSPB Nature Reserve, Aberconwy House and the marina.  There are plenty of great places to stay to explore this lovely part of North Wales.
