If you don't want to see the area from the water, hire a bike or even a segway for a different type of tour! Falkirk also has a superb parkland area called The Helix; activities on offer here include cycling, watersports, an adventure playground and lots more. The best attraction however is the worlds largest horse sculptures - the Kelpies. They are 30 metre high horse heads, made from an incredible 300 tonnes of steel, and these giants stand as a tribute to the vital role that horses played in early Scottish Industry. Tours are available to get close to and even inside the structures. Historically, Falkirk doesn't disappoint. The Antoine Wall, built by the Romans around 142 AD was a high stone fortification 3 or 4 metres high, and was designed to show their power and authority. It is now a World Heritage Site and you can visit certain areas of the wall that still exist in various places; the walking routes are easy going and kids will really enjoy exploring the ramparts and the remains of forts and boathouses. In the nearby Callendar House, you can experience life gone by and visit the displays retelling the story of the Antoine Wall. Or how about a visit to Blackness Castle - the 15th Century fortress located on the South shore of the Firth of Forth. It is a stunning place and has been used over the years as a royal Castle, a Prison and more recently as a film location; for Hamlet (the Mel Gibson one), BBC's Ivanhoe and the TV series Outlander. For the trainee wizards in the family, a trip to the School of Witchcraft and Potions is a must. Create your own potions from hundreds of ingredients and be taught spells and wand movements from the Potions masters!
