The city of Leeds in North Yorkshire is a city bursting with history, amazing architecture, fun things to see and do and most importantly, good old Northern charm. If you haven't been, why on earth not? It is easy to get to, offers a great variety of places to stay, places to eat and things to do, and most importantly, one of the Spice Girls is from there. There is lots to do in the city centre; museums, parks, Escape rooms and all that business, but if you travel just a short way out there are some wonderful attractions and day trips on offer. Harewood House is one of the "Treasure Houses of England", and you can look around here both inside the magnificent house and around the vast gardens. There is a rare bird garden, a farm experience and some of the finest art collections in Britain. Or enjoy a day out with the family at nearby Kirkstill Abbey and explore the ruins of a former monastery built over 800 years ago. It is set in beautiful grounds and is a lovely place to wander around. There is a cafe here and a lovely shop, and across the road, you can visit the Abbey House Museum; kids can step back in time an experience life as a Victorian! For some retail therapy you've come to the right neck of the woods; Leeds is considered to be one of the UK's best shopping destinations. There are all the usual high street names and luxury designer brands too, but the difference here is the variety of independent retailers and market stalls. The iconic Kirkgate Market is one of the largest indoor markets in Europe and has everything on offer from food and drink to fashion, jewellery, flowers and hardware. This market has been running since 1857 and has some wonderful characters running the stalls - families going back generations. At the other end of the spectrum, wander around the elegant Victoria Gate or the arcades of the Victorian Quarter for window shopping in all the sleek designer shops. There is something that will appeal to everyone in this fantastic Yorkshire city.
