# Liverpool, North England, UK

> Liverpool is a city on the coast in the Northwest of England facing out to the Irish Sea and sitting on the banks of the Mersey River. Most famously (for some) it is the home of The Beatles and a lot of the tours and attractions here are John, Ringo, Paul and George related. There is The Beatles Story in Albert Dock - a museum completely dedicated to the Fab Four, a trip to the the Cavern Club (they made their debut here in 1961) or various other tours offering fans the opportunity to walk in their footsteps - from Penny Lane to Strawberry Fields. If you are not a Beatles maniac then never fear, there is masses to do. There are museums galore here, celebrating everything. The Merseyside Maritime Museum has a huge collection of nautical history, illustrating the importance of Liverpool as a coastal gateway to the world, including its role in the UK/America slave trade and emigration, the Navy and exhibits relating to the Titanic. The Museum of Liverpool tells the story of Liverpool, its people and the famous Liver Bird emblem, there is also a Tate Gallery here and The Victoria Gallery and Museum, showcasing artwork, sculptures and ceramics. Due to the significance of the port, Liverpool is named as a UNESCO World Heritage site; this covers six locations in the centre including Pier Head, Royal Albert Dock and Brown William Street. And if sightseeing is not for you, it is a fantastic shopping destination, in particular the 42-acre Liverpool One, dedicated totally to shopping!
