Milton Keynes was created - and yes I literally mean created- in 1967, as the result of an urban design experiment by the government to create a modern town of the future.  It was built to encompass 13 existing villages in a grid design and it works wonderfully well; the regimented layout has not destroyed the individual character of each of the villages.  Moreover, although there are a fair few roundabouts and modern buildings, it ranks top for green spaces within a city and has 15 lakes and 11 miles of canals - more bridges than Venice and more shoreline than Jersey! In terms of things to do there is lots going on.   For family attractions check out Snozone, an indoor dry ski slope where you can mess about in the fake snow, have lessons and grab a bite to eat.  It's not the Alps but its a good place to learn!  Or how about Gullivers Land Theme Park which includes a Splash Zone and a Dinosaur and Farm Park.  At Willen Lake there is something for everyone with all sorts of activites on offer, from Wakeboarding and inflatable aqua courses to Archery and a High Ropes challenge.  You can also visit the stone structure of the Medicine Wheel or just wander around the beautiful park or enjoy one of the cafes. Bletchley Park - the infamous top secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers - lies just south of Milton Keynes and is a really memorable day out.  Here you can step back in time to experience the stories and achievements of the 10,000 men and women who worked here and find out how Bletchley Park has shaped modern day computing.  Visit the restored codebreaking huts and enjoy interactive exhibitions and displays; the grounds and gardens are also beautiful.
