Pitlochry is a small town in Perthshire in Scotland lying on the River Tummel. It is about 90 minutes from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness airports, so although the surroundings seem as remote a wilderness as you can find, it's actually pretty well connected. Visitors come back here year after year to enjoy the stunning scenery and take part in all manor of wonderful outdoor activites that replenish the mind and soul (even of the stroppiest teenager). Bungee Jumping, White Water rafting and mountain biking are on offer alongside the more mainstream experiences such as hiking, fishing and golf. The town itself is small but vibrant with a great selection of places to stay, from the grandeur of the Atholl Palace to self catering options, and there are lots of fantastic places to eat too, for all budgets. Check out the popular Pitlochry Dam and Fishing Ladder - an extraordinary looking extension to the river to allow the salmon to travel up and spawn. Further out and about and with walking boots firmly strapped on, there are some fabulous walks and sights to see - the Bruer Falls, the Pass of Killicrankie, Loch Faskelly and Loch Tummel. For more experienced walkers try the ascent of Ben Vrackie; it is a five or six hour climb and you will be rewarded with fabulous views from the top. There is plenty to do here and Pitlochry is a lovely peaceful place from which to explore the Highlands of Perthshire.
