# Ullapool

> Ullapool is a small village in the Scottish Highlands on the shores of Lochbroom, with a population of around 1500.  Despite its small size, it is in fact one of the biggest populations for miles round (that should give you an overview of the general area!) and is an important port and popular tourist destination.    This picturesque fishing village is surrounded by stunning unspoilt scenery and there is plenty to do.  For those wanting to get back to nature this is just the place.   Head west to the Inverpolly National Nature Reserve, which is home to wildcats, buzzards and eagles to name a few.  One of the most photographed sites in the area - the Stac Pollaidh hill - is also here, and there are some fantastic walking trails for all abilities.  Head south and you can explore the vertigo inducing Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach (you need a strong stomach to both visit and pronounce the names) or the beautiful Leckmelm Shrubbery and Arboretum.   Further along the road, heading towards Poolewe, you will find beautiful views out to sea over sandy beaches with rocky islands of the Outer Hebrides in the background. Ullapool is the gateway to the Outer Hebrides but make sure to take some time to stop off here and explore all the stunning scenery on offer.
