Longsands Beach sand is golden therefore the swimming is great, with lifeguard cover from might to September.It's now a searching that is favored by locals and has now hosted the British Cup, the national searching championships. Canoeing, diving and snorkelling also carry on here.Immediate facilities consist of toilets with disabled facilities, first aid post, lost child centre, restaurants and shops.There's also the Blue Reef Aquarium on Grand Parade, see our separate listing on that.If Longsands gets too busy, walk south to King Edward's Bay which will be ignored by the ruins associated with 11th century Tynemouth Priory and Castle (see listing) which are English Heritage and ready to accept visitors. The bay, protected between rock formations, is pleasingly sandy while the swimming secure in the event that climate isn't too rough. The watch home nearby has relics of shipwrecks, and also the cliff walk that is top are actually good.
