Oak Cottage was built in 1932 and is situated in the village of Abermule, between Montgomery and Newtown in Mid Wales.
This two bedroomed, single storey cottage has been refurbished and the layout altered to maximise room space to make them cosy and yet practical.
Off road parking and access is through the conservatory at the side of the property.
Our Galley Kitchen is fully equipped and has a small breakfast bar for impromptu snacks and coffee breaks. The utility room has a washer/dryer and ironing board for your convenience.
A spacious living room with dining area opens out through double doors onto the patio area overlooking the large lawns. An ideal place for an evening meal or a relaxing breakfast. Fully equipped with TV and log effect electric fire for those cosy evenings in, the lounge has 2 large reclining sofas for relaxing.
The master bedroom contains a full-size double bed, ample wardrobe and drawer space and shares a family shower room with the twin room. A second toilet and wash basin makes this cottage ideal for 4 people sharing.
The conservatory alongside the cottage is a sun trap even on the coldest of days.

Oak Cottage

A full service camping pitch, with a 16 amp electrical hook up, a TV lead with free-view channels, drinking water and grey waste disposal. he usual toilet and laundry facilities are of course provided. Just a few yards away, the village has the  Abermule pub to quench your thirst and provide hearty respite and the well stocked shop is open 6 days a week. The local Community Centre is a very short walk and has tennis courts, bowling green and other facilities available, with a small membership charge.

Each pitch has a 16 amp electrical hook up, a TV lead with free-view channels, drinking water and grey waste disposal. The usual toilet and laundry facilities are of course provided. 

Grass Camping Pitch

Alwyn and Olive began the family business in Abermule as a Garage serving fuel, repairing vehicles and buying and selling cars. When the property behind the Garage became available they bought their first Park and as it was a ‘Smithy’ they naturally named it Smithy Park. Lifestyles changed, the garage was sold and Westbrook Farm was purchased whilst retaining Smithy Park. Westbrook Farm had access to ½ mile of fishing on the River Teme and in due course fishermen requested caravan and camping pitches alongside so that they could stay for longer, and so The Bestparks Family evolved along with two young boys, Glenn and Wayne.

Smithy is a special place where the River Mule flows into the River Severn, and the Montgomery Canal runs alongside. Mature trees and shrubs give the park a garden like setting along with peace and tranquility. The Park has a friendly, family feel, and is happy to nestle unobtrusively tucked away from the Village at Abermule and yet is only a minutes walk from the local Inns and shop.

An on site Park Warden helps with the day to day running as well as the ground maintenance. Fully heated facilities are available for caravan and camping customers along with a small children’s play area. Holiday Home owners just allow themselves to be enfolded in this blissful park in Mid Wales.

Smithy Park

One of the unique qualities of Raven's Retreat is that, unlike some other shepherds huts, you have your own bathroom attached via the back door to the veranda - so no getting wet. The Hut is well insulated and has a log burning stove to keep you warm even in winter. Logs and kindling are provided and the fire will be lit for you if you wish to arrive toasty warm. There is a pull out double bed and space for a single mattress. The bathroom has a Villa compost toilet (odourless) a shower/mini bath and heated towel rail. The kitchen area contains a microwave/grill, fridge, toaster, hob and kettle and eating and cooking equipment, including a cafetiere.

The hut is situated off a quiet lane and there is car parking for two vehicles.

WIFI is provided, but as there is no mobile signal we can lend you a pair of walkie-talkies to keep in touch.

There's an enclosed garden to keep the dog safe and a large play area (not presently fenced) which could also be used for a tent. There's a kennel and run at the house where we can keep an eye on your dog(s) if you want a day away. A continental style breakfast hamper with a choice of menus can be delivered to your door.

The Shepherds Hut

The accommodation offered is an open plan living room, kitchen area and sectioned off bathroom with hot water, shower and heated towel rail. The living area has a table to seat four, chest of drawers, bookcase and a king-sized pull-out day bed, all warmed by a log burner and back up electric heater. A spiral staircase leads up to the sleeping platform above complete with double bed. The kitchen area has a fridge/freezer, combination microwave oven, gas hob, four slice toaster, kettle, hot water, cafetiere, cutlery, china and pots and pans and plenty of cupboard space.

Accessed through the back door from the kitchen area is a conservatory with a table and seating for four/five people. The Cabin is surrounded on two sides by a wide, covered veranda which houses the gas barbecue and where you can sit and admire the beautiful wooded landscape or watch the bats in the evening leaving for their nightly foray.

The property is accessed from the lane through a double gate into our garden where a car can be parked for unpacking (parking for one car is in the car park by the house). The Cabin is fenced off from our garden for peace and quiet and keeping the area as dog-proof as possible. There is a kennel with a run in the front garden area and the extensive veranda has a gate at either end so that dogs can be contained, whilst giving you some peace and keeping out muddy paws.
Such a uniquely beautiful valley can hardly fail to tempt those amongst you who have an artistic bent and there is a full size easel you can borrow. As the Cabin was initially designed as a studio, the living area has a large Velux window ideal for natural light and a selection of art and writing reference books for inspiration.

Look out for "Eddie" and friends! What used to be a bird hospital 15 years ago is now home to injured creatures of a wooden kind!

If you’re travelling with friends and wish to be close to them during your stay please add a note to the enquiry form and we will try to accommodate your request.

Inside: Double bed, Electric Kettle, 2 cups, 2 Glasses, Starter Brew kit Pack, Lighting, Cool Box, Mirror, Electric Heater and Power Sockets. Pen y Bont Touring and Camping Park is located in the breathtaking Snowdonia National Park near Bala, North Wales.  It is a peaceful, attractive site with views of the Berwyn mountains and just 100 yards from Bala Lake, the largest natural lake in Wales.  Its enviable location makes it an awesome base for adventuring around the Snowdonia National Park and for a multitude of outdoor pursuits.

Pen y Bont consistently gets rave reviews from campers who have stayed here, and it is not difficult to see what people love about it.  Aside from the epic location, it’s a super friendly and relaxed campsite with plenty of room over the six landscaped acres for tents, motorhomes, caravans and campervans, on a variety of hard and grass pitches.  They now offer glamping in the shape of a shepherds hut and two Gypsey Romany Caravans (based on the original Gaskin caravan design, no less) and the lucky glampers also get some rather lovely exclusive extras in the new “Gelli” Glamping area: an al fresco kitchen area and a BBQ hut.  The communal facilities are excellent - a good shower and toilet block of course, but the best bit for me is the food situation.  I’m not a “Pot Noodle and run” kind of camper, I like eating well when I go on holiday, and here you can do this, with the help of daily meat deliveries (except Sundays) from the excellent local butcher.  The onsite shop provides other essentials such as bread, milk, free- range eggs and local cheese, meaning that you don’t have to stagger in with a full supermarket shop when you arrive.  Bliss.

Nearby (very - it’s a 5 minute walk) you have the lovely historic town of Bala which offers the chance to hop aboard the Bala Lake railway, a mini steam train which takes its passengers on a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake through Snowdonia National Park, showing off the lake and surrounding scenery including the nearby Mountain of Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy.

Train journey in the bag, it’s time to get serious about some of the outdoor pursuits on offer.  Choose whether to go low, medium or high on the extreme sports front.  There are many excellent walks and cycle routes for all abilities and this is a great way of exploring the Snowdonia National Park.  Pistyll Rhaeadr - the highest waterfall in Wales - is 20 miles away if you fancy a day trip. For watersports, head to Bala Lake and try one of the many activities on offer such as sailing, kayaking, raft building, gorge walking and windsurfing.  And if you’re feeling bullish, the National White Water Centre is just a few miles down the road, offering some serious white water fun for those who are strong of stomach.

With its natural surroundings and breathtaking scenery , Pent y Bont touring and camping park in Snowdonia National Park is a tranquil and rural holiday destination, perfect for those who are seeking a relaxing retreat...and for those who aren’t…

Long Mountain Pony Trekking Centre is a fully licensed family run centre, inviting site visitors of most many years and abilities. All treks are followed by friendly and guides which are experienced understand the surrounding hills and bridleways. All the horses are very carefully chosen for their kind nature and temperament that makes sense. Miles of scenic off road hacking available. You will be provided tuition that is basic riding gear, so riders of most requirements can enjoy each day's cycling; the rate is stroll and trot aided by the periodic canter once the landscapes enables.

Llynclys Hall Farm Shop

The Corris Railway was initial Gauge that is slim railway Mid-Wales, built in 1859. The train operates almost every weekend, along with other periods of accessibility during the summer time, but it's always better to call ahead if you should be making a vacation that is unique. The journey that is circular 50 moments, including a guided trip regarding the 133-year old motor shed and workshops at Maespoeth. No tickets being single granted as under preparation needs all journeys must begin and end at Corris facility. Passenger services is going to be steam-hauled whenever you can, but this can not be guaranteed. Please phone in the to check which locomotive is running day. Their trains consist of supply for the carriage of wheelchair passengers and the ones with minimal mobility, as does the Museum and Ticket workplace. Well behaved dogs are welcome and are also carried on the train during the discernment for the train crew.
