Idris our Shepherds Hut sits in a 3 acre wild flower meadow. Park on your private hard standing & follow the gravel path to find him. Take a moment to look at the view.. And listen - peaceful silence- just the stream rushing & the birds singing.
Once settled, take a seat either by the firepit, under the canopy or snuggled inside on the sheepskin bench & relax!
Tonight you’ll be sitting around the fire, toasting marshmallows, watching the starry skies the area is famous for.
Awake & from your bed take in breath-taking Cambrian mountain scenery, morning valley mists below, Red kites soaring above.
Now for breakfast - Cook up a feast on the gas BBQ in the adjoining undercover camp kitchen (preorder meat from our local butcher to be delivered & awaiting you) & enjoy a long hot shower in our beautiful off grid restored horse trailer bathroom & compost toilet hut with British organic shower products which is located right beside you.
Time for decisions – will you be off adventuring? The area is known for its walking /mountain bike routes. Or you can explore the woodland paths & hilltops on the farm and walk into Llanidloes if you want to go further & get great organic coffee. This area offers so much choice.
Will you instead just stop? Be still & quiet & enjoy a digital detox? Grabbing a book and immersing yourself in your meadow is just as nice a way to spend your stay.

Idris was so named after the farmer who preserved this place as his life's work. Our farm is 1200ft high, totally private & unspoilt. We are privileged to be its custodians & the profits from our glamping help us to manage the land. We ask for you to embrace this ethos, recycle using the bins provided, keep fires to the designated fire pit area & respect the countryside code.
We are mostly off grid so expect fairy lights & solar but there’s USB charging & heating in Idris. Along with your welcome basket of welsh produce there’s towels, bedding included. In the kitchen there’s tea/coffee.

Shepherds Hut

Just 6 car free pitches are surrounded by tall grass & flowers across our 3 acre wild meadow. Peace, privacy & space guaranteed.

Prices include 2 adults & 2 children. 6 adults max per pitch. Small PUP tents free. Each pitch has log seating and a campfire.

We are a tent only site due to our narrow lane access and hill top location. Therefore pitches might not be completely flat & it can be windy at 1300ft so strong pegs recommended!

Cars are parked nearby & barrows are available to transport gear to pitches or we can help out with our quad bike!

Feel free to bring a BBQ or you can pre-book a fire bowl & logs. Marshmallows included! There’s usually a communal BBQ most weekends.

Each pitch now has its own private compost loo, with 2 communal nice hot shower shacks.
Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads at all times. ‘Deposits’ must be collected & disposed of. As well as our own, we are surrounded by sheep farms & keeping our neighbours happy is paramount.

Meadow Camping

This Hut can aacomodate upto two adults and either a dog or child

One of the unique qualities of Raven's Retreat is that, unlike some other shepherds huts, you have your own bathroom attached via the back door to the veranda - so no getting wet. The Hut is well insulated and has a log burning stove to keep you warm even in winter. Logs and kindling are provided and the fire will be lit for you if you wish to arrive toasty warm. There is a pull out double bed and space for a single mattress. The bathroom has a Villa compost toilet (odourless) a shower/mini bath and heated towel rail. The kitchen area contains a microwave/grill, fridge, toaster, hob and kettle and eating and cooking equipment, including a cafetiere.

The hut is situated off a quiet lane and there is car parking for two vehicles.

WIFI is provided, but as there is no mobile signal we can lend you a pair of walkie-talkies to keep in touch.

There's an enclosed garden to keep the dog safe and a large play area (not presently fenced) which could also be used for a tent. There's a kennel and run at the house where we can keep an eye on your dog(s) if you want a day away. A continental style breakfast hamper with a choice of menus can be delivered to your door.

The Shepherds Hut

First bag of logs is free, £5 thereafter.

The accommodation offered is an open plan living room, kitchen area and sectioned off bathroom with hot water, shower and heated towel rail. The living area has a table to seat four, chest of drawers, bookcase and a king-sized pull-out day bed, all warmed by a log burner and back up electric heater. A spiral staircase leads up to the sleeping platform above complete with double bed. The kitchen area has a fridge/freezer, combination microwave oven, gas hob, four slice toaster, kettle, hot water, cafetiere, cutlery, china and pots and pans and plenty of cupboard space.

Accessed through the back door from the kitchen area is a conservatory with a table and seating for four/five people. The Cabin is surrounded on two sides by a wide, covered veranda which houses the gas barbecue and where you can sit and admire the beautiful wooded landscape or watch the bats in the evening leaving for their nightly foray.

The property is accessed from the lane through a double gate into our garden where a car can be parked for unpacking (parking for one car is in the car park by the house). The Cabin is fenced off from our garden for peace and quiet and keeping the area as dog-proof as possible. There is a kennel with a run in the front garden area and the extensive veranda has a gate at either end so that dogs can be contained, whilst giving you some peace and keeping out muddy paws.
Such a uniquely beautiful valley can hardly fail to tempt those amongst you who have an artistic bent and there is a full size easel you can borrow. As the Cabin was initially designed as a studio, the living area has a large Velux window ideal for natural light and a selection of art and writing reference books for inspiration.

Look out for "Eddie" and friends! What used to be a bird hospital 15 years ago is now home to injured creatures of a wooden kind!

Brynllwyd Glamping

Oak Cottage was built in 1932 and is situated in the village of Abermule, between Montgomery and Newtown in Mid Wales.
This two bedroomed, single storey cottage has been refurbished and the layout altered to maximise room space to make them cosy and yet practical.
Off road parking and access is through the conservatory at the side of the property.
Our Galley Kitchen is fully equipped and has a small breakfast bar for impromptu snacks and coffee breaks. The utility room has a washer/dryer and ironing board for your convenience.
A spacious living room with dining area opens out through double doors onto the patio area overlooking the large lawns. An ideal place for an evening meal or a relaxing breakfast. Fully equipped with TV and log effect electric fire for those cosy evenings in, the lounge has 2 large reclining sofas for relaxing.
The master bedroom contains a full-size double bed, ample wardrobe and drawer space and shares a family shower room with the twin room. A second toilet and wash basin makes this cottage ideal for 4 people sharing.
The conservatory alongside the cottage is a sun trap even on the coldest of days.

Oak Cottage

A full service camping pitch, with a 16 amp electrical hook up, a TV lead with free-view channels, drinking water and grey waste disposal. he usual toilet and laundry facilities are of course provided. Just a few yards away, the village has the  Abermule pub to quench your thirst and provide hearty respite and the well stocked shop is open 6 days a week. The local Community Centre is a very short walk and has tennis courts, bowling green and other facilities available, with a small membership charge.

Each pitch has a 16 amp electrical hook up, a TV lead with free-view channels, drinking water and grey waste disposal. The usual toilet and laundry facilities are of course provided. 

Grass Camping Pitch

Alwyn and Olive began the family business in Abermule as a Garage serving fuel, repairing vehicles and buying and selling cars. When the property behind the Garage became available they bought their first Park and as it was a ‘Smithy’ they naturally named it Smithy Park. Lifestyles changed, the garage was sold and Westbrook Farm was purchased whilst retaining Smithy Park. Westbrook Farm had access to ½ mile of fishing on the River Teme and in due course fishermen requested caravan and camping pitches alongside so that they could stay for longer, and so The Bestparks Family evolved along with two young boys, Glenn and Wayne.

Smithy is a special place where the River Mule flows into the River Severn, and the Montgomery Canal runs alongside. Mature trees and shrubs give the park a garden like setting along with peace and tranquility. The Park has a friendly, family feel, and is happy to nestle unobtrusively tucked away from the Village at Abermule and yet is only a minutes walk from the local Inns and shop.

An on site Park Warden helps with the day to day running as well as the ground maintenance. Fully heated facilities are available for caravan and camping customers along with a small children’s play area. Holiday Home owners just allow themselves to be enfolded in this blissful park in Mid Wales.

Quackers Indoor Soft Play Centre

Glyndurs Way (Glyndwr) is an 135 mile (217 Km) long National Trail meandering through the open moorland, rolling farmland, woodland and forest of mid-Wales. Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre is a destination that is perfect some active enjoyable, whether you fancy a swim and a splash about, some badminton, climbing, interior bowls, and much more!Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre has a 20m pool appropriate all many years. During weekends and college holidays we have our water fall that is 30ft on! Our Sports Hall is a 3 badminton court sized hall with sprung floor that is located on a lawn floor. Here tasks such as badminton, 5 a side football, netball, short tennis, volleyball, ping pong, baseball, aerobics and interval training occur. We also have a bencrete moulded 15ft wall that is climbing of a chimney or stack impact, and for the more adventurous an overhang. This wall that is climbing suitable for experienced climbers just or for inexperienced individuals (9 years and older) whilst under qualified instruction.The indoor bowls hallway is comprised of four rinks and a viewing area.
