Deanwood Holiday Cottages have direct access into the Forest of Dean where it is possible to walk for miles without meeting another person. Being in a quiet rural area away from crowds, roads and traffic, they are the ideal place in which to escape society. The Royal Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, is an ancient oak woodland which is home to deer, buzzards and wild boar as well as many other little animals and birds. Sheep have the right to roam freely under an ancient law, and life goes on at a leisurely pace. Dogs are welcome in 10 of our 13 holiday cottages (living area only, not bedrooms). They will love their doggy walks in the Forest of Dean! The village of Yorkley is easy walking distance from Deanwood Holiday Cottages being only half a mile away. In Yorkley Village there are 2 general stores, one of which also houses the Post Office, 2 village pubs, a hairdresser, Health Centre and Community Centre with skate park and children’s play area.Coronavirus Update We are taking bookings for arrivals from 20/03/2022 onwards. ) Description **This is an adults only site** **Pitches:** 40 **Opening Dates next year:** 20/03/2022 to 30/09/2022 SORRY, DEANWOOD CARAVAN AND CAMPSITE IS NOT OPENING FOR THE 2021 SEASON. WE HOPE IT WILL REOPEN IN 2022. Newly opened in 2013, Deanwood Holidays Caravan and Campsite is in a quiet setting right beside the Forest of Dean with direct access into the Forest, yet only 3 miles from the main A48 Gloucester to Chepstow road. From 2016 Deanwood Campsite is re-opening as an ADULT ONLY site, where over 18's can enjoy the tranquil surroundings without the distraction of children. Yorkley village, only half a mile from Deanwood Campsite, is within easy walking distance. In Yorkey village there are 2 pubs and 2 general stores supplying fresh bread, milk, bacon, sausages, eggs, newspapers etc. also camping gas. The town of Lydney with its 3 supermarkets and a good selection of takeaways is only 3 miles away. The hard standing and grass pitches are mainly level or gently sloping, with panoramic views to the west over the Lyd Valley to the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons beyond. The pitches are well spaced out, many with shade, and with plenty of room for recreation. Altogether we have 40 pitches, 20 for caravans and motor homes and 20 for tents. On site there are modern shower a nd toilet blocks, and a wash-up and laundry room, all free for our guests to use Deanwood Caravan and Campsite appeals to nature lovers with its quiet setting and close proximity to the Forest of Dean where deer, including the White Deer, and many other little mammals and birds can be seen. Dogs (kept on leads) are welcome, and with direct access into the Forest, there are miles of doggy walks on the doorstep. On site we also have a Sports Hall available to hire in the summer months where badminton, table tennis and table football can be enjoyed. Smaller function rooms can be hired by larger groups wanting a communal meeting room. The Reception building also houses Tourist Information and a Book Exchange. Deanwood Holidays also has 13 holiday cottages in their own courtyard, near to the Campsite. ### Nearby Attractions The Forest of Dean is a compact area brimming with activities and attractions for all ages. As well as miles of scenic footpaths, cycle paths and bridle ways, there are also numerous attractions to visit: caves & mines, castles & craft shops, Vineyards, Steam railways, Gardens & an Arboretum, Puzzlewood, Go Ape etc. The Forest of Dean is wedged between the Rivers Severn and Wye, so water sports such as kayaking & canoeing are close by as well as boat rides. The Severn Bore is a famous natural wonder well worth seeing. The historical Market towns of Monmouth and Chepstow are a 20min drive away and the cities of Gloucester, Bristol and Bath are all under an hour away. Our local town of Lydney with shops, swimming pools & entertainment is 3 miles.
