This new Certificated site is situated in the ‘Solway area of Natural Beauty’. The 200 metres of grass covered sand dunes that separate it from the clean sandy beaches of the Solway Firth is classified an area of Special Scientific interest for the Flora and Fauna contained there-in. The Windmill at Bank Mill built 150 years ago was burnt down 125 years ago and since then many changes have taken place. The creation of a Nature Reserve, Market Garden, then Plant Nursery and now gradually changing to a home for abused animals and therapeutic centre for abused children. The Coffee shop/Restaurant is popular for the wide range of food. Open daily with two late nights Friday and Saturday also takeaways available. The area is steeped in history, from before Roman occupation till the Second World War. Wildlife around the Solway Estuary and boasts the range of thousands migrating birds. The Lake District and Scottish Borders are easily accessible and the infamous Hadrian’s Wall extending from Wallsend on Tyne to Bowness on Solway extends down the Solway to Ravenglass, passing our door.
