Bankwood Farm Welcome to wild(ish) camping at Bankwood Farm, a spectacular rural site with few creature comforts in Cumbria’s Upper Eden Valley. Set at the foot of the Pennines, this site offers guests an exclusive-use spacious field to disconnect completely from work, technology overload or just the routine of daily life. Far-reaching views stretch out over the Pennines, fells and all the way down to the Lake District (which can also be reached for day trips in about 40 minutes), and you can head out for hikes to the likes of Murton Pike and High Cup Nick from the farm. Wildlife is truly abundant here: look out for red squirrels, barn owls, curlews, lapwings and (if you're particularly lucky) otters. This working farm specialises in sheep and cattle, and the owners will be happy to show you around if they have a spare moment. Farm-produced food like sausages and eggs is also available for breakfast. How do stays here differ from wild camping? Well, there's a proper toilet with hot water and a water refill point located a short walk from the pitches, with rubbish disposal also taken care of on site. A charging point is also available. Coming here without a car? The farmers can pick you up from the nearest station in Appleby-in-Westmorland (five miles from base) or the Pennine Way by arrangement. Please note that the field isn't totally flat and has limited level space. If this is a concern for you, the site recommends limiting the number of tents you bring to two.
