The Sawmill Certificated Location

Thirsk, Ryedale, England

Unlike many sites today, we embrace the simplicity of rural life and as such our CL site offers a peaceful, countryside retreat. Set in the North Norfolk countryside and on the outskirts of the village of Corpusty, 'The Sawmill' is within an easy walk (0.75 mile) of the village pub, Spar shop, post office and art gallery. Each pitch offers plenty of space; some have frontage to the River Bure and guests may use one of our fire bowls (small fee for logs). Well-behaved dogs are welcome. A variety of wildlife can be seen on site; look out for deer, foxes, rabbits and squirrels. Barn owls can often be seen hunting on the water meadows opposite, along with a visiting egret. Herons are seen regularly fishing in the river and ponds; you may even be very lucky and see our elusive kingfisher or possibly a late night sighting of otters! We are central to many popular attractions including a number of beaches, the Norfolk Broads and Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Cley Reserve, also seal trips to Blakeney Point. Both the National Trust's Blicking Hall and Felbrigg Hall are each within 20 minutes drive. The popular village of Heydon, with its award-winning tea rooms, pub and village green, is 2.5 miles away. Coarse fishing is available at Bure Valley Fishing Lakes (3 miles) and Blickling Hall Lakes (NT 5 miles). For cycling, the 26 mile Marriott's Way, stretching from Aylsham to Norwich, follows the routes of two disused railway lines. There is also the Bure Valley Railway which runs between Aylsham and Wroxham, where boat trips on the Broads can be organised, and there is access here to another popular path/cycle track running alongside this narrow gauge line. Sheringham, a small sea-side town and home to the North Norfolk Railway, runs a steam train through to Holt, passing Sheringham Park with some stunning coastal views, and on to Weybourne. The seaside town of Cromer is 13 miles away, home to the famous Cromer Crab and the Pavilion Theatre, with its traditional 'end of pier' summer Show. The Georgian market towns of Aylsham and Holt (both 7 miles) have a variety of independent retail outlets, Tesco, Budgen and Co-op; Aylsham also has a weekly auction and market. The Medieval city of Norwich is an easy 16 mile drive and boasts some interesting sites; the Norman castle and museum, the Cathedral with the second tallest spire and the largest cloisters in England and 'The Lanes' a medieval area of Norwich made up of alleyways with a selection of quaint, independent shops, cafes and restaurants; Norwich also hosts the largest open-air market in the country, open 6 days a week. There are many local restaurants and pubs within easy reach serving excellent meals and local ales.
