Carnforth, Cumbria, England
Run by Pam and Dan Lloyd (and with our two kids as holiday helpers!) - we are proud to introduce you to our peaceful, private camping and glamping holidays here at Once Upon a Fell. Situated close to our family farm in Cumbria, we offer guests two fully-furnished bell tents set in their own fields, an Arctic cabin situated in a private garden and private camping fields for up to 8 people. We are perfect for outdoor-enthusiasts who are looking for a secluded and environmentally-friendly camping or glamping experience. Once Upon a Fell is as its name suggests: situated on the fell side, adjacent to Farleton Knott SSSI and Hutton Roof Crags SSSI. With private pitches aimed at small groups and families, our site offers true off-grid escapism. Being outdoor enthusiasts who love making the most of all that our natural surroundings have to offer, we hope to share with you our passion for this beautiful part of the world. Busy running Eco Home Supplies, our eco-responsible household supplies company, we had the opportunity to support the diversification of Whin Yeats Farm: a dairy and hill sheep farm that has been in the Burrow family since the 1940s. With our love of camping, the fells and most importantly – peace, ‘Once Upon a Fell’ was born – offering small-scale, quiet, eco-responsible glamping and camping in the South Lakeland region of Cumbria. What’s more, we wanted to offer our customers their very own private space in which to enjoy the quiet surroundings, allowing you to relax and take it all in with a backdrop of beautiful views from the edge of the fell. Our sites are designed with privacy in mind and our booking policy discourages large groups. We offer a bespoke camping experience based on an appreciation of the natural surroundings and a desire to create unforgettable holidays. The surrounding fells are well known for walking, hiking, climbing and mountain biking enthusiasts, nestled between the Lake District National Park, The Yorkshire Dales and Silverdale & Arnside AONB, our site has the benefit of numerous places to explore, whilst avoiding the crowds that the Lake District attracts. Our unique, private pitch bell tents are the heaviest duty cotton canvas the UK has to offer. We have placed them on woodchip for added insulation, sourced from our local wood yard, and carpeted them with cosy rugs and coir matting for that added bit of comfort. Each has its log burner to keep you toasty on those cooler nights, a double bed with a proper pocket sprung mattress for a decent nights’ sleep, and additional double futons and mattresses, providing additional sleeping and seating for families. Our bell tents are set in their own private grounds, you won't see rows of glamping accommodation all next to each other here - you will be in your very own private field! Each bell tent has their own private composting toilet, gas-fired shower, cooking and washing up facilities, with luxuries such as a double hammock to relax and enjoy the views, a fire pit, bbq and a generous sized cool box to keep all your chilled items in. Shared amenities, such as fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and charging points can be found down at the small camping field which is a 5 minute walk away. Our site offers views of Ingleborough and the Yorkshire Dales, the Howgills and Lake District fells with instant access to public footpaths and bridleways such as the Limestone Link and routes around Hutton Roof Crags and Farleton Knott. You can also walk into Kirkby Lonsdale from our site: a beautiful and historic market town on the border of the Yorkshire Dales. One Greener Camping Club membership required per booking. Please add it on to extra products if you're not already a member.
