# Bridgnorth Cliff Railway

> Bridgnorth Cliff Railway

For over a century now Bridgnorth Cliff Railway was transporting the fine people of Bridgnorth down and up the sandstone that is 111ft which divide the tall Town through the Low Town, and both from the River Severn. It is despite its vintage nature a railway that is working its usefulness towards the town is not even close to diminished by its age. It is a nice and slightly unusual trip that is little those whom like a bit of chuff stuff! Theoretically talking it's the British's earliest and steepest inland electric funicular railway, so you have bragging liberties then serve to counterbalance one another if you should be a proper trainspotter! The railway operates double cars on synchronous tracks; linked by steel ropes, the carriages. In order one rises towards the place that is top one other runs to your bottom section! The cars are running on an winding that is electric these days, but they were initially driven down and up by something of water balance, with every carriage carrying water ballast in a tank concealed under the passenger compartment. There is space aside for wheelchair storage so that they can be amenable to sharing that with your buggy, but best to ask ahead.
