Mousehole Camping is situated in the village of Paul on Cornwall’s west coast, perched happily on a hill behind the fishing village of Mousehole and about three miles away from the larger town of Penzance. Mousehole is an absolutely beautiful spot and quite impossible to visit without falling in love at first sight. With its quaint harbour, small sandy beach, crystal clear waters lapping into the shore, fishing boats bringing in their catch and old fisherman’s cottages lining the harbour, Mousehole is picture-perfect. The village is made up of narrow cobbled streets with tea shops, art galleries and independent gift shops, selling such lovely, handmade sea-inspired knick-knacks, that you won’t be able to resist buying everything. Nestled into all this gorgeousness is Mousehole Camping, an affordable and rather lovely family-friendly campsite, situated (fascinatingly) at the home of Cornwall’s answer to The Red Devils - the mighty Mousehole FC. Yes, this campsite lies adjacent to the local football club ground; the owners have realised what a great little spot they have here and are willing to share. Mousehole Camping offers good-sized pitches where you can set up your tent, campervan or motorhome, or - if you want to push the boat out - book one of their lovely Bell Tents. Worth a note here, tents are bookable from May through to early September and there are hardstanding plots for motorhomes all year round. All pitches have the option of an electric hookup and there is also WiFi (so you can stay connected), toilets, solar-powered shower facilities and parking onsite. You can also cheer on the Mousehole team if you are staying on match day! If you can pull yourself away from the lovely environs of your campsite, venture out and discover what’s around. From Mousehole you can walk along the coast to Newlyn, taking in the views across St Michael’s Bay and towards the tidal island of St Michaels Mound on the other side. This rocky island is owned by the National Trust and you can visit by taking the short trip to Marazion and heading over to the island either on foot across the cobbled causeway (low tide only unless you want to swim) or by boat. Once there, you can explore the ancient church and Castle which sit proudly on the top, and take in the superb panoramic views. Marazion also has a lovely sandy beach with safe swimming and clean shores and if you like a stunning sandy beach and a bit of surfing, try Sennen beach a few miles away. There are also many local boat companies offering trips out to sea; we went on a mackerel fishing boat from Mousehole which allowed us to catch our supper and do a bit of sightseeing at the same time. Other boats will take you to St Clement's Isle - a couple of hundred metres out from Mousehole harbour - for a sea-faris to spot dolphins and maybe even a basking shark. With mackerel in tow, head back to the campsite, get the BBQ going and relax. If you’ve not been fishing and don’t fancy cooking, then stroll to the Kings Arms pub in Paul for a bite to eat. A lovely campsite in a magical part of Cornwall.
