Here at Westdown Farm we are set in 92 beautiful acres of unspoiled, working farmland in the idyllic countryside of West Devon, just a short distance from Dartmoor. This is an ideal place for the photographers and wildlife enthusiasts among you as we have over 30 species of butterfly recorded and our fields are rich in wild flowers and grasses. Westdown Farm is also home to our pedigree herd of British Longhorn Cattle who manage the land by grazing and helping maintain the diversity of the flora which help the butterfly to thrive. We are an off grid, ECO friendly camping ground, so we do not have electric hook-up. But, we do however charge up your batteries if they need charging!! (this is a free service). We can cater for traditional campers and caravanners in our CL Campsite where you can enjoy waking up to a stunning view every morning. Alternatively you can enjoy Wild Camping where you can get back to nature in our unspoiled areas. Also we can cater for rallies/gatherings with your own separate area for privacy. We are a dog friendly site but all dogs must be kept on leads to ensure the safety of other campers and of course the livestock that live on the farm. (Unfortunately we ensure a no dogs policy with Wild Camping).
Accommodation types
- ‘SUNSET VIEW — **PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL NEED TO ADD EACH GUEST TO THE BOOKING - NO GUESTS INLCUDED ** Traditional Camping in ‘Sunset View’ is set in a secure 1/2 an acre field which will cater for 5 vans/motorhomes/caravans along with 5 tents. We do not have designated pitches in this area. We operate as ‘You choose where you want to pitch’, which also caters for parking next to your pitch. With large spacious pitches, you will never feel like you are camped so close to your neighbours that you can hear them snoring!! The field overlooks Hatherleigh Moor and if it’s a clear night you will see the most stunning sunsets from here! We feel that when you want to go camping, sitting around a fire-pit is a must, so feel free to bring along your raised fire-pit. If you do not own one, do not panic….. you can hire one from the farmhouse for a small fee plus a refundable deposit once you have returned it. It’s as easy as that!! There’s no need to pick your bag of wood up from the local garage, we sell bags of wood that we prepare onsite; for sale here, which are cheaper, and you might even be lucky enough to watch how we do it. Please note; Collecting ‘dead wood’ for your fire is NOT PERMITTED. This goes against or policy to protect wildlife. There are ground nesting birds that may get disturbed and we also ask you to keep to the paths already created so it doesn’t disturb other wildlife’s habitats.
- ‘Bedz in Shedz’ — **PLEASE NOTE IT IS MANDATORY TO ADD THE £20 CLEANING FEE UNDER "EXTRAS" ** At Westdown Farm we offer Glamping in our Posh ‘Bedz in Shedz’ which are available for rental between 14th of April – 12th of September 2022. Nestled in ‘Willow Wood’ with fabulous Solar Lighting and a USB charging point for Mobile Phones only, a very comfortable King-size bed which can also be separated to suit a couple of friends wanting a relaxing weekend away. It’s perfect for a very chilled getaway. Each ‘Posh Bed in a Shed’ comes with your own personal fire-pit. So, as the evening starts to draw closer you can light the fire-pit, toast your marshmallows and be mesmerized by the gentle flickering of the fire flames. What more could you ask for? Comes fully equipped with bedding and cooking utensils, Tea, Coffee and Sugar for that all important morning cuppa, 1 free bag of wood for every night of your stay, so all that’s needed is for you to pack your suitcases, fill your hampers with your favourite camping foods, and let us take care of the rest. What are you waiting for? Each unit sleeps a maximum of 2 persons, has your own private toilet and 2 showers that are shared between the 3 ‘Posh Bedz in Shedz’ we have available. Please Note, – Bedding and Towels will not be supplied with 1 nights stays, you will need to bring your own. – We do require a £50 refundable security deposit upon arrival. The reason we require a refundable security deposit, is to keep the nightly costs down for our customers. So, in the event that something accidentally does gets broken, we are unable to swallow that cost through our nightly charge. We like nothing more than to refund your security deposit at the end of your stay. This means we have some happy Glampers and also a happy Westdown Farm team :).
- ‘MYSTERY WOOD — **PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL NEED TO ADD EACH GUEST TO THE BOOKING - NO GUESTS INLCUDED ** Our lovely Wild Camping area is set in ‘Mystery Woods’ where you can relax in the peaceful surroundings of the magical whispering trees. Here you can chill-out around your campfire until its tranquil flames have truly relaxed you. Although we have accommodated the big 8 man tents at times, wild camping is more designed for tents that are on the smaller scale and minimalistic camping. So please bear this in mind when deciding which pitch to book. Please note: There is no access to the woods with vehicles. You will be parking your car a short distance away from your tent, and transferring your camping equipment to your pitch via a wheelbarrow we provide, or, as a real wild camper would, on your back. With ‘Wild Camping’ this is just one of the many experiences to enjoy! Collecting ‘dead wood’ for your fire is NOT PERMITTED. This goes against our policy to protect wildlife. There are ground nesting birds that may get disturbed and we also ask you to keep to the paths already created so it doesn’t disturb other wildlife’s habitats. The wild camping area is a ‘Dog Free Zone’. If you wish to come camping with your fur babies, please book your pitch in the traditional camping area.
