# Herons Wood Certificated Location We are sandwiched between the 312 square miles of the Forest of Bowland (moorland) to the east and the 120 square miles of Morecambe Bay (the largest expanse of intertidal mudflats and sand in the UK) to the west. Northward beyond these (30-40 mins drive) are two huge national parks, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The historic city of Lancaster lies a couple of miles north of our site and its highly reputable university is a mile and a half east of us. For a ferry from Heysham to the Isle of Man it's a 10 mile trip. We have four lawned pitches and one hardstanding, all with EHU (10A). There are open views of the surrounding fields and a public footpath is 40m from the entrance and traverses fields leading to lanes and the canals. It’s an easy walk (about 1 mile) to The Mill at Condor Green which sits on the Glasson branch of the Lancaster canal or pick up the award winning Bay Cycle Way which is 80 miles of relatively flat riding around the spectacular Morecambe Bay from Glasson Dock to Barrow and don't forget to visit The Smokehouse tucked away next to the dock at Glasson, for a fantastic range of smoked seafood, meat, preserves, biscuits etc. Just half a mile up the road there's Ashton Hall Garden Centre and cafe (breakfast until 11am!) and the Ashton Hall Golf Club. Southward by 4 miles there’s Wallings Ice Cream Parlour (for homemade ice cream) or a little further (7 miles), there’s the excellent Barn at Scorton. The historic city of Lancaster is 10 minutes drive from the site and has a large range of shops, cafes and museums. There’s also the Priory (stalls date from 1340!) and castle (cafe and tours available). Whilst in town, visit Atkinson's Coffee Roasters, est. 1837, and not much has changed! Or the Judges’ Lodgings (built 1625, Grade I listed), or the delightful Williamson Park (54 acres) with its Ashton Memorial, butterfly house and cafe. There are 2 local Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Forest of Bowland to the east and northward, Arnside and Silverdale AONB with its spectacular sunsets across the bay, country walks and RSPB Leighton Moss.
