Acorn Camping and Glamping is a family run business in a unique location within the World Heritage Site of Luxulyan Valley. World Heritage Sites are designated by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and are places of interest for the whole of humanity. Luxulyan Valley has a remarkable heritage of international significance and is an Area of Outstanding Universal Value and an Area of Great Landscape Value. This tranquil setting has many magical walkways and flora and fauna untouched and rarely seen are in abundance. We are open all year round so you can enjoy the area in different seasons. There is a beautiful woodland trail and lots of places around the site to explore such as our arboretum and wild flower meadow, and in the local area places such as the internationally renowned Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the coastal towns of Fowey, Charlestown and Mevagissey to name just a few. Acorn provides a holiday that will always be remembered. Whether camping in a tent or staying in a Hobbit home you will go away with life long memories of this magical place. We are within a Cornwall Wildlife Site and are keen to promote the site’s biodiversity. As such we have undertaken an Ecological Survey and are implementing a number of wildlife features around the site such as bat boxes, bird boxes and insect houses. It’s interesting how the history of the valley’s industrial heritage still plays a part in today’s landscape. Our Adit from the mining years is a snug home for the rare greater Horseshoe bats, the valley being one of few areas in the UK where they can be seen.
Accommodation types
- Hobbit Huts — The Hobbit Hamlet enjoys a setting landscaped to reflect its natural surroundings. The spacious 11 square metre Hobbit Huts are nestled in their own niche; sleeping up to four on a double futon and 2 sitnsleeps. The Hobbit Huts are equipped with 3 benches, 2 tables, 2 stoves, 1 lantern and a camping pack. Each Hobbit Hut has a covered outside cooking area and nearby has its own shower and washbasin with hot water and toilet. There is a communal fire pit, washing up sink (cold water only) and clothes line. There is a car park a short walk away. The huts have no internal mains electricity and are not heated. Internal lighting is an LED strip light which is battery powered. Sorry, no dogs due to local wildlife.
- Snook Getaway — Set on the periphery of our traditional beech and oak woodland, the Snook has a terraced garden giving it a special character with its scented sensory planting providing a sense of wellbeing. The garden also has a small fire bowl where you can enjoy a relaxing evening around the fire. This unique little Snook comes with its own redwood cedar barrel sauna (wood fired). The sauna includes a changing room and outside cold shower which is situated within the garden. The Snook also has its own private toilet 20 metres from the accommodation and has use of our 3 hot shower rooms. You also have use of the communal washing up sinks and fridge freezer. This romantic little Snook is equipped with a double bed, cushions, table and 2 benches, electric light, rug, mirror, clothes hangers, under-bed storage for small cases and bags, cooking utensils and equipment, outside bench seating and an under-cover cooking area with 2 single gas stoves. (gas can be purchased on-site). Sorry, no dogs due to local wildlife.
- Hobbit Holes — Our 2 Hobbit Holes sleep 2 people. Situated beyond our woodland in their own glade offering a beautiful view beyond the distant fairy tree and over the woodland to see the setting sun. Part of your experience will be your short journey to your Hobbit Hole whilst wheelbarrowing your belongings from the car park on a picturesque journey that takes approximately 5 minutes. Through a pathway above the Hobbit Hamlet, by Sylvan View, along the spinney walk and over the trip-trap bridge. Like our Hobbit Hideaway you will be the person who enjoys adventure and the outdoors, walking and exploring. Sleeping for 2 people on a double bed. The Hobbit Holes are equipped with table and 2 chairs, bedside table, kitchen unit, mirror, coat hooks, boot tray, 1 lantern and a camping pack. The side double doors in the Hobbit Holes give lots of natural light and open onto a decked area. There is a single opening window at the rear and a round main entrance door at the front and a stained glass window. To the rear of the Hobbit glade is an arboretum and pond where flora and fauna flourish throughout the different seasons The Hobbit Holes are of timber construction, 12 x 10 feet. The Holes have no mains electricity and are not heated. Internal lighting is battery powered. You will share toilets and showers, wash basins and sinks with the campers in our Camping meadow which is a couple of minutes’ walk. Drinking water can be carried from here back to your Hobbit Hole.
- Hobbit Hideaway — Suitable for 2 people, the Hobbit Hideaway is in the magical woodland at Rock Cottage, the home of Acorn Camping and Glamping's Hobbit Huts, which are set in the World Heritage Site of the Luxulyan Valley. There is only one Hobbit Hideaway so staying here will be a unique experience to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life by getting nearer to nature. The woodland canopy generates a feeling of mystery, a wonderment that gives a sense of special calmness. You will be the person who enjoys adventure and the outdoors, walking and exploring. The Hobbit Hideaway is reached by a woodland path and offers the opportunity to stay in a traditional ancient broadleaf woodland. Being nestled in the woodland means you see and hear the wildlife on the doorstep. Imagine living basic but enjoying some of the traditional comforts such as our communal on-site showers, wash basins and toilets. There are also washing up sinks which are a short walk away and drinking water is close by which can be carried back to your Hideaway. The Hobbit Hideaway has traditionally lime rendered straw bale walls. It has a basic rustic appeal whilst being cosy. The Hobbit Hideaway is for the more Wild camper/glamper who wants to experience a troglodyte lifestyle whilst appreciating the natural environment, immersing yourself in the magical surroundings. The minimum internal head height is 178cm (5'10"). The hideaway has no mains electricity and is not heated. Internal lighting is battery powered.
- Flora Tents — Our 4m x 4m Flora tents are ideal for a couple or a family of up to four. Primrose and Buttercup have four large windows giving plenty of light, including a camping kit with all you will need for a comfortable stay. The tent area is a gently sloping ¾ acre site and offers a choice of pitches. Small camper vans are also welcome such as VWT4/T5. Please send the make and model of your vehicle when you have made your booking. The site has 3 toilets each with a cold water sink, 3 showers with hot water, 2 individual private washrooms with hot water, a washing-up area with 2 sinks (cold water only) and a traditional oak woodland walk. There is a communal fire-pit with logs available. BBQs allowed (blocks available for standing) but sorry no dogs due to local wildlife. Separate group area with its own fire-pit and scenic woodland views. There is no electricity on site. Mobile devices charged free, fridge freezer and free freezer pack exchange.
