Slacklining

I'm sorry, there is no other way to say this, Slacklining is cool. The problem is, it's both awesomely fun and maddeningly hard. It is essentially balancing on a 5cm wide piece of webbing (it's flat, not like a tightrope but don't start thinking that makes it any easier) which is suspended between two points; for beginners, maybe only a foot off the ground between two trees, and for crazed adrenaline maniacs - across a ravine (don't try this at home). The line, as the name suggests, is slightly slack, which makes things wobbly to say the least. The good news is though, starting off is very safe and anyone can have a go. Once your line is secured between trees - potentially one inch off the ground in my case - then it's all a matter of balance and core strength. Jump off, jump back on, keep practising. A lesson or two would be a great idea to get some basic tricks and tips. And you'll be dangling 4 metres in the air and butt bouncing (yes this is an official trick) before you know it. Slacklining also has some creative aspects too, with a tradition in performances and shows often free in public spaces so keep an eye out for this.
