The lively market town of Honiton has always been well-known for lace and pottery and is now also regarded as the antiques capital of the South-West, with many shops dedicated to antiques and antiquarian books.  It is also host to the award winning Thelma Hulbert gallery featuring both local artists and national exhibitions.   Honiton is one of the gateway towns into Devon making it an ideal place to explore the county; it is within easy reach of both Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks.   All the countryside surrounding Honiton is part of the East Devon Area of Outstanding National Beauty and is home to many local beauty spots, such as the Iron Age Hembury Fort and Blackberry camp, both of which become a sea of bluebells in the late spring. There are some great annual events here too if you are lucky enough to be visiting at the right time!  The Honiton Agricultural Show is worth a visit, as is the biannual Honiton Festival, celebrating classical music and visual arts.  The flamboyant Hontion and District Carnival in October is widely considered one of the best in Devon.
