The Isle of Arran is a great destination for a family holiday all year round.  It's a short ferry trip across the beautiful Firth of Clyde from Ardrossen and  location wise, you've got the Isle of Bute to the north and the Isle of Islay over to the West.  So if you are taking in the Inner Hebrides then make a stop off here. Arran is sometimes described as all of Scotland in one place and it is easy to see why.  It has everything you want; rugged coastlines, dramatic mountain peaks, lush green forests, cultural festivals and a wide range of home grown produce to taste - from local cheeses to delicious ice cream.  The long sandy beaches are great for sandcastle building or rock pooling. The island has a rich heritage dating back to the Stone Age and the evidence can be seen if you go hunting for it.  Check out Machrie Moor stone circles, some over 5 meters high, dating to between 3500 and 1500 BC.   The Heritage Museum offers a great insight into Arrans history if you want to know more. If you are after an active family break, try some sailing, kayaking, rock climbing or mountain biking.  For the serious hikers, have a go at scaling Goatfell, Arrans highest mountain at 2866 feet above sea level.   This is a place for wonderful outdoor family fun, a break from real life and a chance to relax (unless you climb Goatfell of course).  Make sure you stop off on this wonderful island.
