Family

Surfing is a fun and exhilarating activity for you and your kids. At the Escape Surf School, we teach children to surf from 8 years and above and we ask that thay can swim at least 50 metres.

You can book your kids onto our standard group surf lessons*, or we also offer private family surfing lessons, which is a really fun way to spend time with the family and learn to surf.

*if children aged between 8-12 are booked onto Group Surf Lessons, we ask that a parent / guardian also joins them in the water, due to the physicality of the activity. If the parent / guardian is not joining the surf lesson, then we can provide a wetsuit so they can enter the water with the children. 

Our Family Surf Lesson costs &pound;160 and includes:

A private surf lesson for you and your family with one of our professional surf coaches (up to 2 adults and 2 children, or 1 adult and 3 children)
All equipment is included: wetsuits, surfboards and boots and gloves if its in the colder months. We have a wide selection of wetsuits and boards, so you can be sure we'll have the right fitting equipment

All our surf lessons, from the half day to the 6 lesson course are tailored towards your individual level of surfing which we will assess on the day.

On every session, we usually have a mixture of beginners and those that may have had 1 or 2 lessons and perhaps some more advanced surfers, therefore we will usually have at least 2 or 3 instructors coaching; one for each level of surfing

We always assess your ability on the day, and assign you to the correct group  this ensures that you will never receive the same lesson twice, as you will progress.

Whether you are a complete beginner or surf regularly, you will benefit from a lesson with the Escape Surf School. As well as teaching the technique and skill of surfing we also place a great emphasis on safety and water awareness. We pride ourselves on being flexible, so if there is not a course to suit you, just give us a call and we can discuss your requirements.

95% of our lessons, take place on Towan Beach, which is a 1 minute walk from the surf school which is an ideal beach for learning and progressing quickly. Occasionally we use Great Western or Fistral beach, all of which are less than 5 minutes walk from the school. So we meet at the school, where we all change into wetsuits, and then proceed to the best beach for the conditions, tides and clients ability.

We are flexible. If you want to spread your lessons over a few days, you can - at no extra cost, so maybe you would like to have 3 lessons over 6 days, thats fine!

If you are a beginner, then you will be shown the basics of surfing on the first couple of lessons, perfecting the technique of getting to your feet and riding the waves consistently. We'll then move to more progressive techniques, including turning, paddling, pop-up and wave awareness.

For those who've already surfed, we'll work on more progressive & technical coaching. Depending upon your current ability, this can include outback surfing (riding unbroken or "green" waves), turning, paddling, positioning. We'll assess your ability on the first session

This is an intensive course aimed at maximum water time over a short period, although you can spread the lessons over 4 days if you like,

This course is suitable for all abilities, whether you are a complete beginner or have surfed before. You will be shown basic techniques through to advanced techniques like paddling correctly, turning and reading the ocean and waves. 

Lots of water time so a great opportunity to become a competent surfer. You can also progress from beginner boards to more technical surf boards.

This course is based on 1 surf lesson per day, however if you are feeling really enegetic, you could complete 6 lessons over the course of 3 days (2 per day)!

Kids surf Sessions 

New for Summer 2020, we are offering kids only Surf Sessions, aimed at children aged 8-13.
Running Monday - Friday from the 13th July to the 4th of Septmber, let us look after the children and teach them how to surf on Towan beach, which is Newquays best beginner beach.

The Surf Sessions are each 2 hours long and we'll focus on having fun, catching lots of waves and giving your child expert surf coaching, whilst at the same time building their confdence, learning valuable ocean knowledge and making friends with other kids!

The lessons are scheduled based on the tides, so the start times can vary, but you can schedule and choose your preferred dates and times, when booking.

The price includes all equipment (surfboard and wetsuit) and all the children are able to use our secure changing rooms and showers for before and after the lesson.

Kneeboarding Lesson

Kneeboarding allows you to learn the same principles as you would in "regular"surfing but instead it simplifies the amount of steps to follow . You only need to use your knees so it is great for kids, parents, or those with limited mobility. Kneeboarding with ESS in Newquay can be taught in the bathing area of a lifeguarded beach, which is great as there is no need to compete with other surfers. You will be straight to your knee's, so you will now have more time to learn the core ingredients of surfing; Using the rails, S-turning, Figure of 8 and Layback.

Are you some one who is new to the water and want's an alternative to surfing and body boarding. Use it as a taster session to learn new skills

Bodyboarding Lesson

Bodyboarding is a great introduction to the ocean. If you are not feeling very confident in the waves yet, then start here. We work on how to read the surf while getting you to understand the importance of weight and balance on a board. This is great for kids, parents, really anyone can part take in it.

Surf Hire

Although all our surf lessons are inclusive of equipment, you may wish to practise your new found surfing skills on your own. If this is the case, then we also offer a hire service of surf boards and wetsuits, as well as boots and gloves.

We hold a huge range of surf boards including: softboards, minimals^ hard boards in a variety of sizes from 5'10" to 9"

Our wetsuits are top of the range swinter suits and we alos stock boots, gloves and hoods

All hire customers are able to use our changing rooms and hot showers, as well as keep your belongings in our changing rooms

Newquay Surfboard Hire is based within Emoceanl Surf, Newquay, in the heart of Newquay town and 30 seconds away from the famous Towan Beach.

We have been hiring out surfing equipment to our customers since 1998, and have the facilities for you to change, and for us to look after your clothing and valuables at no extra charge whilst you enjoy your day.

We cater for all levels of surfing, hiring out softboards, epoxy surfboards, shortboards, minimals and body boards. We are also now offering the hire of kayaks, single and tandem and stand up paddle boards.



Beginners:- we have a range of Swell foam surfboards which are ideal for learners as they have plenty of volume, stability and buoyancy.

Intermediate:- we have Epoxy surfboards, with fins which are lighter than the large soft boards.

Advanced:- We have a range of Spider shortboard surfboards and minimal surfboards to accomomodate all.

Bodyboards:- A range of bodyboards all with wristed leashes.

Wetsuits:- We have a selection of summer and winter wetsuits for ladies, men and children, only &pound;5 a day.

Newquay Surf Hire

Situated on Towan Beach in Newquay this adventure that is underwater you on a journey from regional waters towards the more exotic over 40 various shows. Your pet that is biggest swimming in these waters could be the black tip reef shark, which could develop to nearly 2 metres in length. See them, along side loggerhead turtles and fish that is colourful swim above the head as you walk through the ocean tunnel.With three hearts, blue bloodstream and a brain shaped like a donut the giant pacific octopus wins the prize for the most unique animal on display, whereas you're going to be dazzled by the pulsating coral and the reef fish that dart, like lightening, around it. There is a lot more to see on the indigenous seabed that is sandy than you possibly might think. Watch sharks that are indigenous ray fish and dogfish swim around one another. Finally keep your hands and feet far from the claws of the crabs, lobsters and shrimps!Stay dry whilst exploring the ocean!

Blow your family away with a fun-packed learn to surf package run by the Rip Curl English Surf School in Cornwall. On Newquays most infamous stretch of sand, Fistral Beach, your two-hour private surfing lesson will include the fundamentals of surfing, ocean awareness, beach safety, surfing equipment and surfing terminology. Our team of International Surfing Association qualified and lifeguard trained instructors offer expert guidance and encouragement throughout so you learn quickly and safely in your own time.

Surfing Experience Day | &pound;49pp

Cram as much surfing in Cornwall as you can into one day with the Rip Curl English Surf School Surfing Experience Day. Ever wanted to roll like a pro, well this option does exactly that; an instructional surf coaching session and a no pressure free surf session, all in the same day! In the morning youll attend a two-hour surfing lesson tailored to your level of riding whether youre a beginner or experienced surfer, then youll be free for the afternoon, with the mornings tuition in mind, to practice your new surfing skills. This package offers you the best of both worlds.

Surfing Coaching Weekend | &pound;139pp

Learn to surf or improve your surfing technique at our Surf Coaching Weekend with expert ISA Level 2 instructor and former British and English Champion Johnny Fryer. He will help skyrocket your surfing performance in a fun and chilled out atmosphere. Whether youve surfed before or youre new to the sport youll be individually coached with set goals and performance analysis to ensure you improve. We guarantee a jump forward in your performance and as a result, more fun! Amongst like-minded surfers, youll improve your riding, learn from and enjoy each others experiences and successes. Our Surf Coaching Weekends are also very social affairs where you can swap surf stories of the day, eat out and let your hair down on Saturday night. Its an intensive surf package like no other.

Dont forget, if youre having lessons, all your equipment hire is included in your lesson price!

We hire all surfing and bodyboarding equipment and offer the most competitive prices in Newquay. Remember, we are only 100 metres from the sand at Fistral and 800 metres from Newquay Bay so you dont have to carry your equipment far.

We also have an outdoor shower and changing facilities, which you can use included in your price.
