We are the Millars. We took over West Bastlebog in 2018 and are in the process of restocking the farm. It is a small farm of just over 50 acres and such is the way with scale and farming these days, we farm on a part-time basis. We are registered with the Scottish Organic Producers Association (SOPA) and our land is certified organic.

However we are new to farming. Having lived for the past 13 years in Edinburgh our life has somewhat changed since moving to West Bastlebog. Previously a Chartered Surveyor and a jobbing tradesman Andrew has always had a keen interest in farming life, agriculture and self sufficiency. As an eight year old he was milking dairy cows single handedly on a Sunday morning because the farmer tended to have a little bit too much the night before to get out of bed. Alexa, a primary school and yoga teacher, has grown up with a love of horses and now runs weekly yoga classes in the village hall.

Coast to Coast Surf school was formed in 2004, as a mobile surf school with a simple aim to teach "the art of surf riding on the best beginner beaches".
As a family run business we have grown organically with a philosophy where staff and customers are central  producing the best lessons and courses possible for our customers in a friendly and informative way. We provide top quality equipment that provides warmth in the water, performance in the waves and safety.

We have grown each year since, and now employ experienced instructors in all our sports and operate on all three coastlines in Scotland annually.

JUNIOR HOLIDAY SURF COURSES
Coast to Coast offer fantastic holiday surf courses for juniors aged 7yrs* to 16yrs! Adapting to daily conditions with surfing, bodyboarding, surf skate, coasteering and beach games. Our courses aim to help our junior surfers progress building water confidence, knowledge and skills.

Each course consists of four morning or afternoon lessons running Monday to Thursday, every week of the holidays. Classes are run by our team of experienced friendly staff and classes and are limited to 8 children per instructor. Courses follow our surf level programme at stages 1-3.

In the case that surf does not co-operate we also offer coasteering, snorkelling and stand up paddling so the children are having fun even if its flat or big surf!

All juniors must be able to swim 50m as a minimum and be able to carry their own equipment to the beach. These courses are super popular so we recommend booking early!

We hope to offer private surf lessons for beginners to intermediate level (level 1 to 4) for individuals from our experienced instructors.

Surf beginner lessons cover everything you need to learn initially including safety, equipment terminology and how to control your board in prone and how to stand.

Surf improver lessons offer the ability to learn how to catch small unbroken waves and improve basic speed and turning skills.

Surf intermediate lessons offer potential to work on fundamental basic skills such as bottom and top turns, speed generation and cut backs.

FAMILY COASTEER DISCOVERY
We offer introductory Coasteer lessons (level 1 to 2) for family and household groups. These lessons will be shared with up to four households. Please note  a household is people that live at a single address.

Great for young explorers and families looking for their first adventures or learning about coastal wildlife!

Coasteer classes are scheduled to tides and group dynamics. If we have younger families for example we will pick easier routes and offer a gentle introduction to coasteering with more snorkelling, wildlife introductions and smaller jumps. For families with older children that are confident we will look at more challenging routes. Juniors and Adults must be competent swimmers  50m non stop swim ability is a minimum condition. Juniors without parents must be 10yrs+ to do this lesson. Younger juniors will be allowed in family groups only if at least one parent attends.

Please note that are coasteering zones are 20mins walk from the meeting point by the centre  so please add 40 minutes to estimated class times. Due to high demand we are keen to get everyone back in the water whatever the conditions, so if surf was too big to coasteer we would offer surf or bodyboarding as a back up activity so you can have fun whatever the weather. Please also check the forecast in advance before booking in!

Learn to SUP on Dunbar's stunning coastline. Highly qualified staff and top of the range equipment. Ideal for individual SUP and group SUP XL.

FAMILY HOUSEHOLD SUP XL LESSON
This product is limited to one family per giant SUP XL board from the same household. We have two boards. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 2 adults and 2 children per board. Younger ones from 7yrs upwards can be on board but must be able too swim 100m and help carry and paddle the board.

Family SUP XL class cover everything you need to learn including safety, equipment terminology and how to control your board in prone, kneeling and standing position.

Stand Up Paddle XL lessons take place on a large 17ft SUP that can take up to 8 people on the same board. This option is offered to single households or families only. Our instructors will act as guides from a separate board. SUP XL is ideal for family groups (especially with children 7 and 12yrs).

All lessons and tours take place on top of the range paddle boards and our wetsuits will keep you warm whatever the weather.

We try to schedule SUP classes with the best tides and when conditions are good. We also offer alternative sports should conditions be too difficult and the options to reschedule or receive a voucher for a future time. This activity requires low winds and swell to take place. All participants must be able to swim 100m and be at least 7yrs of age.

Coast to Coast Surf School

John Muir nation Park is an area that is very good take the family, with a variety of activities available, including pony trips and wildlife trails. It may be entirely on a pleasant stretch of coastline, rendering it a lovely and destination that is interesting visit with plenty to see and do. It is named after John Muir, a naturalist, explorer and conservationist.The park covers a few of the most coastline that is dazzling East Lothian, with plenty of wildlife for the household to watch out for and luxuriate in. It's an spot that is particularly good birdwatchers, with kittiwake in the castle ruins, shelduck and eider duck into the dunes, plus skylarks and lapwings through the summer time.  You will find gannets, terns, ringed plovers, sand martins and a whole lot more!Other shows to learn will be the Castle Ruins in Dunbar, the Peffer Burn (6 kilometres to your north), plus a brilliant Cliff Top Trail, with a few fantastic views to enjoy, like the historic Bass Rock, the sandy that is very long of Belhaven Bay, and extensive areas of grassland, sodium marsh and woodland. You are able to understand sea!There is also a big children's' play area by Linkfield carpark, plus 2 BBQ stoves available to hire, with the young ones if you prepare ahead so you can really make on a daily basis from it. Boy scouts at the ready!

John Muir Country Park
