If you are exploring the south coast, don't miss out on a trip to the charming market town of Bridport.  The wide main streets are home to more than a thousand listed buildings, many of which were built for the rope making industry when the town was the biggest producer of ropes and nets in the world. Bucky Doo square is the heart of the town and home to the renowned Saturday market and many live music acts and other performances.  Markets traders from all over the local area come here to sell their unique handmade goods and food and drink.  A mile and a half south is the stunning coastal fishing village of West Bay, which has recently gained notoriety as it was the location for ITV's Broadchurch.  It has two beaches; East beach, which is a shingle beach backed by vast, vertical sandstone cliffs, and West beach; a smaller, quieter beach and popular with young families as it is very safe and shallow for paddling.   There is plenty to do here if you don't want to relax on the beach.  Hire a rowing boat to take yourself up the River Brit or head out on a fishing trip from the harbour.  Older children will enjoy crab fishing at the marina.  Add in an ice cream and fish and chips and you have everything you need for a perfect British day out!
