Herefordshire is an absolutely stunning county located on the border of England and Wales. The landscape is wooded hillsides, meandering rivers, villages with timbered houses and cobbled lanes, and vast patchworks of fields stretching for miles. For walkers and outdoorsy types, the Malvern Hills offer fabulous hiking and scenery and if you're a non walker and not outdoorsy, head there anyway. You'll change your mind.
While on the subject of stunning landscapes, the countryside surrounding the Golden Valley of the River Dore is said to have been the inspiration for the Chronicles of Narnia when CS Lewis visited many years ago, and it is certainly an enchanting place. There are several picturesque villages to explore and just outside one of these - Dorstone - is the 5,000 year old Arthur's stone, a neolithic burial chamber. The walks on offer around the Golden Valley are gorgeous, and if you want to make the hike a bit more interesting, you can even borrow a llama to take for a stroll if you fancy it!
There are some great little market towns too; Ledbury, Leominster, Ross on Wye and Kingston among others are all worth a visit and if you want to explore castles then Herefordshire offers this too, in the shape of Eastnor Castle (a "mock" castle with gorgeous grounds and plenty going on) and Goodrich Castle (ruins of a medieval castle with stunning views and a fascinating history).
