Petersfield was founded in the Middle Ages and has everything you want from an old English market town. There is a beautiful Norman church - St Peters - and in the centre, a pretty town square with regular markets. There are some great places to stay both in the town or in the many attractive neighbouring villages and great pubs and restaurants to suit all budgets.
It is the ideal base for a weekend of walking and cycling, as the town is surrounded by a network of lovely lanes and excellent public footpaths. This gives visitors access to miles of unspoilt countryside in every direction, including the Queen Elizabeth country park and Butser Hill.
Butser Ancient farm nearby is also a great day out for kids, featuring reconstructions of ancient buildings from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period. Learn some of the ancient crafts our ancestors used!
