HolidayFox vs Lodgify

A fair comparison for UK self-catering owners

Last updated: May 2026

If you're running self-catering properties or holiday lets in the UK and you're looking at booking software, Lodgify comes up a lot. They advertise heavily, they're a strong product, and they target self-catering owners specifically.

We're a smaller UK-based competitor. I run HolidayFox. So this isn't an unbiased page, but I'm going to try to be honest about it, because if you read this and decide Lodgify is the better fit for you, that's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to reach.

What Lodgify is, and what they do well

Lodgify is a vacation-rental booking platform founded in 2012, headquartered in Barcelona. They serve self-catering and holiday-rental owners in the UK, US, Spain, Australia, Brazil and beyond. They have around 20,000 customers worldwide.

Lodgify is built around three main products that work together:

  1. A website builder: pick a template, plug in your photos and copy, and you have a website.
  2. A booking engine: taking direct bookings on the Lodgify-built site, with calendar sync.
  3. A channel manager: pushes your availability to Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and the other big OTAs.

Things Lodgify genuinely does well:

  • Templated websites that look professional. If you don't have a website and don't want to build one on WordPress, their templates get you live faster than anything else on the market.
  • Solid channel manager. Their Airbnb / Vrbo / Booking.com integrations are mature and reliable.
  • Global reach. They handle multiple currencies, multiple languages, multiple tax jurisdictions out of the box.
  • Scale. With 20k customers globally, they have the engineering resources to ship features faster than a smaller competitor like us.

If your priority is "I want a templated rental website and a channel manager bundled together from a global provider," Lodgify is a credible choice and you should consider them.

What HolidayFox is, and where we're different

HolidayFox is a WordPress-native booking widget plus a booking management back-office. We're UK-focused. We don't build the website; we live inside the one you already have, or the one you build yourself on WordPress.

That's the first big difference. Lodgify builds the website for you on their platform. HolidayFox plugs into the website you own. Different business models, with different consequences.

If you own your WordPress site, you keep your domain, your SEO, your design, your content, your guest data, all of it. If you decide to leave HolidayFox tomorrow, your site is unaffected; you just replace the booking widget. If you leave Lodgify, the website you've built lives on their platform and goes away with them.

The second meaningful difference is geographic focus. Lodgify is global. HolidayFox is UK and Ireland. That sounds limiting but it matters in practice:

  • We understand the seasonal pricing rhythm of UK self-catering: bank holidays, half-term weeks, the way Easter shifts.
  • We integrate with payment flows your UK accountant will recognise (deposit + balance, VAT margin scheme, the lot).
  • Candice on our team has set up dozens of UK self-catering properties and knows what works for British guests vs international ones.

If you operate properties across multiple countries, that focus is a downside. If you're a UK-only operator, it's a meaningful upside.

The products do most of the same things at the booking-engine level. The differences are where the software lives, how UK-specific the experience is, and whether the company is helping you reduce OTA dependence or just manage it.

Pricing

Both products are subscription-based. Both price roughly by number of properties.

At a single-property or small-portfolio scale, Lodgify and HolidayFox are usually within 10–20% of each other on monthly fee. Lodgify's website builder is bundled into the price, so if you don't already have a site, that's a real saving. HolidayFox assumes you have a WordPress site or will build one, so total cost of ownership depends on what your existing site looks like.

At 5+ properties, HolidayFox tends to be more competitive because we offer multi-property bundled pricing for UK portfolios. Both will quote you directly.

The honest take if you're between the two

Most UK self-catering owners I speak to fall into one of three groups:

  1. Already have a WordPress site they like. HolidayFox is almost certainly the better fit. Lodgify would mean rebuilding the site on their platform, which is real work and real risk for SEO.
  2. Don't have a site, want one fast, OK with hosted templates. Lodgify is probably faster to get live. If "fast" is the priority over "owned," go with them.
  3. Don't have a site, but care about owning everything long-term. WordPress + HolidayFox is more work upfront (you build the site once) but cheaper and more durable over a 5–10 year property hold. We can help with the WordPress setup. Candice or one of our WordPress agency partners will guide you through it.

If you're in group 3 and the WordPress setup feels intimidating, that's worth a 15-minute call. We've helped a lot of self-catering owners through this and it's much less complicated than it sounds.
